The film The Adderall Diaries by Pamela Romanowsky, based on the book 'A Memoir' by Stephen Elliott, cannot be shown during Film by the Sea. The film, starring James Franco, would have its European premiere during the festival. The reason is that the music rights for the film have not yet been finalized and the producers still want to re-edit some scenes. The replacement film is The Grump, a Finnish film by Dome Karukoski, based on the bestseller 'Mielensäpahoittaja' by Tuomas Kyrö.
