The entertainment ban for the public broadcaster appears to be a wash. The entertainment will continue to be shown on the NPO, because the PvdA has arranged that these programs can remain through the back door. State Secretary Dekker (Culture) presented his media law yesterday with much fanfare, but it is slightly different from what he likes to proclaim. The law stipulates that entertainment is no longer a core task of the Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO). What remains unexposed in Dekker's promotional story is that the small print in this new version of the media law states that entertainment may also be used for the sole purpose of attracting a broad and diverse audience.
