The French film La Haine dealt a direct blow to France's self-image. It showed the raw, violent and racist side of the country, seen through the eyes of three friends from the back streets of Paris. After 20 years, La Haine has not only lost none of its strength, its influence is felt even here in the Netherlands. Maarten Westerveen speaks with filmmaker Victor D. Ponten (Rabat) about La Haine.
